Biography

Bradford Durfee was the child of Volney Tryon and Elvira Rathburn. In the censuses he is listed as (1860) Dertha and female, (1870) as Derfa and male, (1880) as Durfee and male. It is likely that his middle name was Durfee, and was used during his childhood as his main name. [One can't blame him for adopting Bradford as his name once he had the chance!] He was married to Sarah Jane Smith.[1]He was married to Mabel O. Deverick in 1893.[2]. In 1860 the family was residing in Wood, Virginia, but Bradford is not with them unless he is the daughter listed as Dertha. In the 1870 census the child of that age is Derfa, but listed as male. In 1880 the name is Durfee and the sex male. He died in 1943.[3]
