Biography

Gene was born in 1875, son of David Washington Tryon and Cornelia Elvira Cooke. He married Isabel Rundel and they had one child, Richard. He died in 1949.

Biography from "The Tryon Family in America" by Wesley Tryon, 1969, Second Edition by Richard Rundel Tryon, 1980:

NEWTON EUGENE TRYON 8.131b, second son of David Washington Tryon 7.109i and Cornelia Elvira (Cooke) Tryon, was born at Tryonville, Pa., in 1874. In 1898 he moved to Maumee, Ohio. Together with his brother Allen, they founded the Maumee Electric Light and Power Co. using water power from the canal which paralleled the Maumee River or coal, as the energy source. He married Isabel Rundel from nearby Waterville West of the power company on the Maumee River. His house, built in 1902 at 224 East Broadway still stands in 2003. It was one of the first to have electric lights using DC power from the plant. With the perfection of AC power transmission systems, DC became obsolete and the plant was closed. "Gene" and his wife "Belle" had one son, Richard Rundel 9.81a, born Dec. 13, 1902. Newton died in July, 1949 after spending many years in the insurance field. His wife Isabel died on Aug 23, 1963 while sleeping in her home.
