From his age at death, Robert Tuck was born about 1791 in Wiltshire, England.
Marriage. On 18th December 1820, Robert Tuck married Mary Knight at Bishopstone near Shrivenham, Wiltshire. [1]
Several children were baptised to Robert and Mary Tuck at Aldbourne (1821) and in the neighbouring parish of Baydon (1824-1836).
He was still living in Baydon in 1841,[2] but had moved to Ham in Berskshire, England by 1851.[3]
Emigration to Australia In September 1863, Robert said he was 65 years old when he and Mary (62) emigrated to Australia with two married daughters, Sarah Wilshire (37) and Jane Belcher, (27) along with their son-in-laws, George Wilshire (34) and Richard Belcher (28), and two grandchildren, Charles (8) and Fanny Wilshire (5). Occupations were not recorded alongside their names.
Their ship, the Chatsworth, bound for Melbourne in the Colony of Victoria, belonged to the Black Ball Line of British and Australian Ex-Royal Mail Packets. On 30th September 1863, the Master, Richard Tucker, declared he had enough provisions on board for 200 'Statute Adults' for a voyage of 140 days.
They arrived in the Colony in January 1864. [4]
Death. Robert Tuck passed away 13th August, 1865, aged 74 years. His death was registered in the Colony of Victoria, Australia. Nothing was known about his family by the informant, except they offered Jane as being the forename of his mother. [5]
Probate. It was 1870 before Robert's Will was put through probate. His Will named his children and includes Jane Belcher, his daughter. [6]
Potential sources for Robert's life in England:
Robert Tuck, son of Thomas and Jane, was baptised at Baydon, Wiltshire, England on 23 March 1794. [7] (Other children of this couple were baptised at Baydon from 1775; Robert seems to have been the last and was probably born between the baptism of Jane in 1790 and 1794).
