Sally Ann Tucker was born August 17, 1826 in Pepperell, Middlesex, Massachussetts, to Samuel and Clarinda Tucker.

She married Hervey Ball, son of Levi and Lucy (Burbank) Ball, on November 23, 1848, in Pepperell, Middlesex, Massachussetts.

After their marriage, they provided a home to his younger sister, Abbie, before having three children (Anna Clarinda, Frederick, and Harriett) in Pepperell, Massachussetts.

He followed his brothers, Levi Warren, Walton, and Caleb to Calumet, Wisconsin, where they had their youngest son, Samuel, before the Civil War draft in October 1863.
