Payne, son of Sir Richard de Turberville (b. c 1235, d. 1283) and Agnes Wilcock, was born at Coyty, Glamorganshire, Wales.[1]
Sir Payne de Turberville, Sheriff of Glamorganshire, married Wenllian Talbot, daughter of Richard Talbot, Sheriff of Gloucester, and Sarah Beauchamp.[2]
Dictionary of Welsh Biography states that Gwenlian Talbot was a daughter of Richard Talbot of Richard's Castle.[3]

1283:"The tenure of his son and heir, Richard Turberville, was brief; he was dead by 1283, being succeded by his son Payn Turberville III." [8]
1300: "Wilcock Turberville, the reputed bastard son of Richard, was apparently granted Tythegston by his legitimate brother, Payn (ob. 1319), around 1300."
28 Feb 1309: "Protection, for three years, for Payn Turberville, going on pilgrimage to the Holy Land." [9]
25 Jun 1312: "Quit-claim by John de Boneuyle, son and heir of Henry de Boneuyle, to Margam Abbey, of 20 s/z. out of 40 s/2. rent due to him by the Abbey, for a tenement of Boneuyleston, for £20 beforehand. Under seal of Sir Pagan de Turberuyle and Leysan de Auene.
Witnesses:—John Le Botyler, Peter Baudewyn, William Turberuyle, William de Corneli, William Grammus." [10]
26 Oct 1315: "Writ of aid, directed to Payn de Turbeville, keeper of the lands of Glamorgan and Morgannon, late of Gilbert de Clare, sometime earl of Gloucester and Hertford, now in the king's hands, and to all other the king's bailiffs, ministers and lieges of those parts, for Master Jordan Morant, king's clerk, whom the king is sending there on divers weighty matters touching himself, and, amongst others, for the reforming of the annual value of those lands, and what issues have been, or could have been, or ought to have been, levied for his use from the time in which the lands fell into his hands, and by whom, and to enquire therein if necessary by oath of good and lawful men of those parts." 1 Dec 1315: "Grant to Payn de Turbeville, whom the king appointed during pleasure keeper of the castles and all lands and tenements in Glomorgan and Morgannou in Wales, late of Gilbert de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, deceased, tenant in chief, of the power of removing bailiffs and other ministers within his bailiwick and of appointing others." [12]
