Biography

Charles Turner was the son of Robert Turner and Nancy Hames. Charles "Cass" Turner, 1822-1873, married Amanda Adams (1831-1868) in March of 1846, Shelbyville, Texas. He was among five soldiers selected at Fort Johnson in June of 1849 to determine an ideal location for the safe and permanent establishment of a military fort. The garrison of Fort Worth was thus built where the presentday Tarrant County Court House now stands. Charlie "Cass" Tucker served as a 2nd lieutenant in the War with Mexico. He also enlisted in the Tarrant County Hussars Mounted Infantry 10th Brigade in July of 1861 to serve in the Civil War. He was also said to have been a Texas Ranger at one time.
