DNA

Three grandchildren of Sydney Groombridge Turner have taken Ancestry DNA tests: Living Woodyard, Living Turner and Living Turner.

All three have DNA matches with known descendants of Richard Smart Groombridge, confirming the biological link to Sydney's mother Harlettee Louisa Groombridge.

None of the three have DNA matches with known descendants of William Turner and his first wife, Margaret Jane (Killean) Turner.

Descendants of Sydney Turner's purported full sister Myrtle Elsie Adelaide (Turner) Rush have DNA matches with descendants of William Turner and Margaret Killean, as well as descendants of Richard Smart Groombridge.

The implication is that while Myrtle and Sydney are both the biological children of their mother, Harlettee Louisa Groombridge, only Myrtle is descended from their father of record, William Turner.

Sydney Turner's descendants have DNA matches with known descendants of Joseph Powell and Jane (Spink) Powell. Their son Christopher Powell emigrated to Melbourne from Otago, New Zealand the year before Sydney's birth, and was known to live within a few streets of Sydney's mother. Sydney's baptismal name "Sydney Christopher Groombridge Turner" supports identification of Christopher Powell as his biological father.

Sydney's descendants also have DNA matches with a known descendant of Rachel Lois Richardson (Powell) Hill.
