Biography

Sarah Turner was born 28 Oct 1683 in New London, Connecticut as the first child of Ezekiel Turner and Susannah Keeney.[1]) Her siblings included Lucretia, Sarah, Ruth, Mary, Lydia, Grace, Hannah, Susannah, Ezekiel, Elizabeth and Abigail.

When she was 17, she married Jonathan Calkins, son of David Calkins and Mary Bliss, on 11 Dec 1700 in of New London, New London, Connecticut.[2] Jonathan Calkins was born on 09 Jan 1678/79 in Niantic, New London, Connecticut, as the third child of David Calkins and Mary Bliss.[3] He had seven siblings, namely: David, Ann, Peter, John, Mary, Joseph, and Lydia.

Sarah Turner was the granddaughter of Mary Brewster granddaughter of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower, daughter of Jonathan and Lucretia (Oldham) Brewster. Lucretia Turner, sister of Sarah, married Joseph, brother of Lt. Jonathan Calkins.

Jonathan Calkins and Sarah Turner had the following 6 children:

  1. Jonathan Calkins, b. 16 Sep 1701, d. after 1734
  2. Sarah (Calkins) Calkins, b. 7 Jul 1703, d. 03 Dec 1774; married Stephen Calkins
  3. Hannah Calkins, b. 20 Jul 1705, d. after 1725; married Richard Edgerton.
  4. Amos Calkins, b. 14 Oct 1708, d. 1775
  5. Grace (Calkins) Saxton, b. 23 Jun 1711, d. after 1731; married Ezekiel Saxton
  6. Thomas Calkins, b. 26 Jul 1713, d. 2 Jul 1750

Sarah died on 15 Aug 1718 in New London, Connecticut, USA.

After Sarah's death when he was 40, Jonathan married Anne Pember on 08 Dec 1719 in New London, Connecticut, USA, daughter of Thomas Pember and Mehitable Agnes Way. Anne was baptized 2 April 1694 per "Baptisms," by Gurdon Saltonstall: 1694-1696, New London County, CT genWeb. Anne Pember was born on 15 May 1694 in New London, Connecticut, USA. Anne Pember was christened on 02 Apr 1694 in New London, New London, Connecticut, USA. No children were found for Jonathan Caulkins and Anne Pember although they likely had children.

Jonathan died on 17 Jul 1750 in New London, Connecticut where he was buried in the Ancient Burying Ground.
