Note: From tmoran: Joseph was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina on August 17, 1771, the youngest son of Robert and Mary Turner. When he was in his teens, his family moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee, where his mother's relatives, the Mills had also relocated. Following in his father's footsteps he joined the military, and fought in the War of 1812. He married Dinah Small, who was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee on October 12, 1774. At least some of their children (Sarah, Eleanor, Robert, Jonah, Joseph, and Rhoda) were born while they lived in Tennessee. Answering an unknown call, Joseph and Dinah headed north to the farmlands of Ohio. They settled on Caesar's Creek, five miles southeast of Xenia, in Greene County, Ohio, where they homesteaded and farmed on 100 acres of land from the government. His children were: Sarah "Sally" (1794-1851),. Eleanor "Nellie" (1799-1865),. Mary (1800-?). Robert (1803-1885?),. George (1805-1890). Joseph (1806-?),. Jonah (1807-1865). Rhoda (1809-1890),. Elijah (1815-1899). Patience (1819-1902). Each of them was raised in the Quaker faith as their father had been before them. Joseph passed away on May 17, 1847, and was buried on his own farm in the Turner Cemetery in New Jasper Township. Spouse: Dinah Small Turner (1774 - 1864). Children: Sarah Turner Beason (1794 - 1851)*. Mary Turner Bone (1800 - 1855)*. Burial: Turner Cemetery. New Jasper. Greene County. Ohio, USA.

From BeverlyRoloff: The following take from the Genealogical Home Page of James LeRoy Fagan: BURIAL NOTES: He was in the War of 1812 ? He is buried on his own farm in the Turner Cemetery in New Jasper Twp, Greene Co., Ohio. His will named 10 children. In the Book, Portrait and Biographical Album of Greene and Clark Counties, 1885, in the story on David Turner, pp. 325-326, it is stated that Joseph Turner was the son of John Turner who was born near Liverpool, England and came to America as a captain in the British Army and settled in North Carolina after the Revolution. Joseph was really the son of Robert Turner, ( Who may have changed his name from John Hand after coming to America), who lived in Guilford Co., North Carolina probably as early as 1763, thus this book is wrong on this part of the story. (Checking on this information) Joseph and Dinah (Small) Turner settled on Caesar's Creek in Greene Co., Ohio about 5 miles southwest of Xenia on 100 acres obtained from the government. He was a Quaker. (Checking on this information) See the Fagan-Turner History Ellen Boehringer and Glenna Todd visited the Turner Cemetery and have pictures of this Cemetery which is cared for by the Township. It is located in a field between Hoop Rd. and Turner Rd. on Stone Rd. About 1/4 of a mile behind a farm in a field that was the Turner Farm. The Cemetery inscription is Joseph Turner died May 7, 1847 age 75 yrs. 8 mos. 20 ds. Greene County, Ohio was created in 1803 and is part of the vast area once known as the North West Territory. 1825 Tax list Csesar Creek Twp.
