Biography

Susanna Turner was born on 02 January 1685 at New London, Connecticut Colony, daughter of Ezekiel and Susannah (Keeney) Turner.[1][2][3]

She married first Adam Pickett, 26 November 1702 at New London.[1] Adam Pickett was the son of Adam and Hannah (Wetherill) Pickett, born at New London on 07 September 1681 and baptized on 11 September 1681. He died after 19 January 1703/4 and before 20 June 1707, when a notation on his father-in-law's inventory mentions items delivered to the widow of Adam Pickett as part of her portion.[3]

She was known to be living November 26, 1707 when she was named in the distribution of her father's estate.[3]

Because Susanna's name in her next marriage to Samuel Fosdick was recorded as Susanna Turner, not Pickett, there remained some question if Susanna was the daughter of Ezekiel Turner. Additionally, the citation notice on the estate of Adam Pickett, was issued to Susanna, widow of Adam Pickett, on August 8, 1706. This date was three weeks after her supposed marriage to Fosdick; the citation should have been issued to Susanna Fosdick, late widow of Adam Pickett if she was the same person. That question is resolved by the following quitclaim deed.[4]

On 09 May 1717, Samuel Fosdick of New London and Susannah his wife quitclaimed to Joseph Miner Jr. of New London the rights in the real estate of Ezekiel Turner late of New London deceased, which was settled on Susannah as part of her portion, along with what had been purchase from the other heirs to the estate by Samuel Fosdick.[4][5]

Susanna Turner married Samuel Fosdick, as her second husband, on July 13, 1706 recorded at New London.[1][2]

Susanna (Turner) (Pickett) Fosdick died February 22, 1753 at Charlestown, Massachusetts.[6]

Samuel Fosdick's death date was between April 23, 1767 and November 4, 1784.[6]

Adam and Susannah (Turner) Pickett had no children.[3]

The children of Samuel and Susannah (Turner) Fosdick were:[6]

  1. Mercy Fosdick (1708–~1775)
  2. Samuel Fosdick (1710–1792)
  3. William Fosdick (1712– )
  4. Ruth Fosdick, b. 25 Jan 1713/4, bpt. 07 Feb 1713/4; not in father's will.
  5. James Fosdick (1716–1784)
  6. Ezekiel Fosdick (1719–1786)
  7. Jesse Fosdick (1722–1786)

Found while looking at her parents profiles: "Adam and Samuel (sons of Susanna) were both grandsons of John Pickett and Ruth Brewster, sister of John Turner’s wife Mary Brewster, thus she married two of her cousins in succession"
