Samuel B. Turner was born on a farm near Salem, which was then a part of Jefferson County, November 4,1837. He was the son of Jonathan and Deborah Ann Turner. Losing his mother at the age of five years he and a sister Ellen were taken into the home of an aunt, Mrs. John (Jane) Swope, near Glassgow (Sarah Jane Berry)

J.E. McCullough and wife of Belleville, Kansas, arrived here Monday evening for a visit with relatives in this county. They left this county16 years ago. Mr. McCullough was a farmer near Glasgow all his life till he left for Kansas, his father having settled there in 1843. Mrs.McCullough was a daughter of Jonathan Turner, one of the first citizens of this county, having settled near Salina in 1837.
After going west, Mr. McCullough farmed ten years, worked at carpentering two years and has since been in the general merchandise business with his two sons at Belleville. The family now consists of two married sons, one married and one single daughter.
Fairfax Ledger, February 16,1927 Mrs. Ellen McCullough, sister of Samuel B. Turner, died at her home in Bellville, Kansas, February 5.
Interment there. 84 years old. Married John McCullough who has preceded her in death. Three children: George, James and Emma all of Belleville.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Turner, pioneer residents of Glasgow. Her brother, Samuel B. Turner, 107 W. Briggs St., is the last surviving member of a family of 7 children.
Obituary From Belleville Telescope, February 1927 Ellen B. Turner was born near Salina, Iowa, August 18, 1839 and died at her home February 4,1927, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 17days. At the age of 15 she was converted and joined the Methodist church and was a member until death.
On September 27, 1860, she was married to John E. McCullough. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. Two sons dying in infancy. The husband died July 5, 1918 and one daughter, Ida Petti John, died October 3, 1921. Those living are G.B. and Emma of Belleville, Kansas and J. I. McCullough of El Paso, Texas, three brothers, Samuel Turner, of Fairfax, Iowa, J.O. and H H. Turner of Miami, Oklahoma, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
