Biography

Information about this Richard Tutt is based primarily on his involvement in Edgefield County, South Carolina, deeds with Tutt family members and their associates. He may have been born about 1769-1770. He and his likely brother, Benjamin, were on the 1830 Federal Census for Lawrence County, TN. The date and place of Richard's death are unknown. Also unknown is the name of his spouse. He shows in deeds as Richard Tutt Jr., likely to distinguish him from his Uncle Richard Tutt who was a contemporary Clerk of Edgefield County, SC.

There are many unaccounted young Tutts in and around Lauderdale County, Alabama, which is just across the border from Lawrence and Giles Counties in Tennessee. I believe they could be the children of Richard Tutt Junior. Among them are a Benjamin Tutt (m. Jane Cook), a Richard Tutt (m. Sarah Yancey), a William Tutt (m. Elizabeth Murphy), and a Susan who may be a Tutt (m. Green Fisher) and a Mary Tutt living with the Fishers.

I have an extremely close DNA match with a male descendant of William Tutt (m Elizabeth Murphy) and a male descendant of Richard Tutt (m. Sarah Yancey) which supports the probability that Richard Tutt Jr. is the son of Benjamin Tutt (m. Barbara Stalnaker). Paper research shows the latter to be my 5G Grandparents.
