Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Robert Tyler was a Maryland colonist.

Origin

There is evidence in early Maryland records that two different men named Robert Tyler were living in the province at the same time & about the same age. One in Calvert County and the other in Anne Arundel County. There are four entries in the Maryland Patent index of early applications for warrants with this name.[1] Anne Arundel deeds prove that Robert Tyler was living in the county in 1671 when he and his wife, Elizabeth, conveyed a 50 acre parcel to a London mariner named James Connaway and his partner in the county named Thomas Turner. [2]

There is no record of a will in the index of Maryland Wills for anyone of this name who died in Anne Arundel County. There is an accounting dated 1687 in liber 9 folio 403 that may be for this man.

Robert Tyler can often be found on the internet as a son of Laurence Tyler and Dorothy Unknown. This is incorrect and they have been disconnected as parents. The will of Laurence Tyler does not name a son Robert and there is no baptism to suggest that this is true.

Tyler-5424 and Tyler-882 appear to represent the same person because: Both men lived about the same time & in the same place. One profile has very little information.
