The settlement of Germantown, Pennsylvania, and the beginning of German emigration to North America by Samuel W. Pennypacker (This does not have Matthias but the writer was descended from Barbara and Matthias through their daughter Margaret and if you read the preface connects their parents Cornelius Tyson and Hendrick Sellen in his own words. [3]
He arrived in Pennsylvania in 1703 (guess on date based on)[4] and was naturalized in 1709 [5].
On arrival in Pennsylvania, we know that Cornelius came over in 1703 from[4] Mathias would have only been about 16 he would not have come over sooner without family and more likely that came with his Father which would make his arrival 1703 some charts have 1709 but that is when he was naturalized and not the same as arrival time many where here years before they were naturalized.
Matthias died in 1766 and is buried at Lower Skippack Mennonite Cemetery in Montgomery County Pennsylvania. [1]
Cornelious Tyson (this Mathias' father) was believed (but not proven) to be brother of Ryner Tyson who also has a son Mathias born about same time but married a Pots this information as well as letter mentioned in a letter[6] that states that Ryner was a friend and Cornelious (Mathias' father) a mennonite, may be helpful to tell the two Mathias apart when researching.
Many books on the Hunsberger genealogy, and hence most online family trees, list Esther Sellen Tyson Hunsberger as a daughter of Mathias and the aunt of Catherine Nash Tyson. However none of these books or pedigrees offer any sources. It appears that early on she was conflated with another wife or generation of Hunsberger, which added "Sellen" to her name and then attempted to fit her into the Sellen/Tyson/Hunsberger family. Also, she is not named in the Will of Mathias Tyson like his other children.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mathias by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mathias:
It seems likely to me that "Theissen" and "Tyson" are different spellings of the same name and should be so represented. Also, father's surname "Tiesen" is probably misspelled ("ei", not "ie"). Any source info to help decide?
possibly I thought Tyson was her birth name and Sellen was her middle name from her mother's maiden but as little as I have found on her it is possible that Sellen was her birth name and she married a Tyson before she married Hunsberger? ? would have to research more .
