The 1850 U.S. Census shows Thomas at 11 years of age, living with his parents and six siblings while attending school in the Falkland District of Pitt County, North Carolina. Living with the family is a 40 year old mulatto woman named Tempy Evans.[2]
Thomas M Tyson was married to Mahala A. Edwards, the daughter of Levi and Celia Edwards, on January 31, 1864 in Nash County, North Carolina.[1][3]

Patsy A (Tyson) Pridgen (1872–1896)

Thomas is listed at the age of 33 in the 1870 U.S. Census with his 25 year old wife Mahala and three young children, Samuel (4), Rachel (3), and John (1), living on a farm in Union Township of Nash County.[4]
Mahala is believed to have died October 16, 1874. Thomas remarried to Harriet Viverett the daughter of Micajah Viverett on October 3, 1877 in Nash County, North Carolina.[1][5]
Together Thomas and Harriet had one known son:
Charly R. Tyson (b. 1882)[1]
In the 1880 U.S. Census, Thomas is listed with his second wife Harriett and five of the children from his earlier marriage living on a farm in Cooper's Township of Nash County.[6]
He passed away November 10, 1904.The specifics of his death and burial are yet unknown.[1]
