Biography

Marie Charlotte Lefebvre was a daughter of Joseph Lefebvre and Marie Anne Tetard. She was probably born in 1708 or 1709.

Charlotte was married to François Leber at La Prairie de la Magdeleine in 1730[1] and died in 1790.[2]

Research Notes

Birth

No direct record of Charlotte's birth has been found in the parish registers of Québec, but she was said to be about 82 years old at her death in 1790.[2] An examination of the birthdates of her siblings shows a gap between July 1707 and July 1710 in which Charlotte was most likely born. Most of her siblings were baptized in La Prairie; thus that seems the most likely place of her birth in the absence of evidence to suggest otherwise.

Name

The record of Charlotte's marriage to François Leber refers to her as "Anne Charlotte LeFebvre." However, in the body of the marriage record, she is called "Marie Charles" ("Marie" appears to have been written over another name and is difficult to read).[1] In the records of the baptisms, marriages and burials of her children, she is most often called "Marie Charlotte," and occasionally simply as "Charlotte."
