Queen Victoria (maiden name unknown, but probably WOOD)
Possible parents: Thomas Wood and Nancy ?Bullard
BIRTH AND DEATH:
Birth Date: 24 Jun 1840, per gravestone
… Queen was likely born closer to 1843
… adult census says born 1843, 1840, July-1838
… childhood census says born 1843 (age 7), and 1845 (age 15)
Birth Place: Georgia, per census in 1870 & 1880
… says born Arkansas on census in 1900
… her daughter Leland's census consistently says mother was born in GA
Death Date: 4 Mar 1902, per gravestone
Death Place: assume Dallas Co. TX, based last census, and husband’s pension
… living in Dallas Co., TX in 1900, and husband in Dallas Co. TX on 1906 pension
BURIAL:
Find A Grave Memorial# 14660924 (gravestone pictured)
Inscription: Queen V, wife of I.H.Elder
Birth: Jun. 24, 1840
Death: Mar. 4, 1902
Burial: Lyons Cemetery, Sunnyvale, Dallas County, Texas, USA
Created by: Ed Elam
Record added: Jun 20, 2006
MARRIAGE:
Groom: Irvin Hinton Elder
Bride: Queen Victoria (maiden name unknown, but probably WOOD)
Married in January 1870, per note on their 1870 census (says married “Jany”)
EVIDENCE OF PARENTS:
Queen’s parents are ASSUMED, based on Queen’s name/age/location.
There is a Victoria Wood in 1850 GA, and Queen Victoria Wood in 1860 GA,
… which is consistent with her adulthood names of Queen & Victoria
Queen was living with parents in 1850 &1860, but not in 1870.
… this is consistent with an 1870 marriage
Queen & future husband, were both living in 1860 Campbellton, Campbell, GA
Queen’s adult age & birthplace is similar with childhood census
… her birth year varies in both adulthood & childhood, but roughly the same
MOTHER’S MAIDEN NAME:
Maiden name Bullard shows up on many family trees as wife of Thomas Wood.
However, I cannot find any evidence of Nancy's maiden name.
It may just be a wild guess that has been duplicated across many family trees.
Please note that there were many Nancy's born in South Carolina.
Please note that the name "Thomas Wood" is a very common name.
Does anyone have a documented source for her Nancy's maiden name?
Does anyone have a theory as to why Nancy's maiden name might be Bullard?
Another thought… Queen gave her only daughter the unusual middle name of Elmer. Maybe Elmer is a surname from her mother’s side of the family?
MEMORIES:
Source: from the written files of Charles W. Beavers
Queen's granddaughter, Myrtle lived until 1992, her mind remaining sharp in her elderly years. Myrtle was only 9 years old when her grandmother passed, but she remembered this,
"The Elders moved to Arkansas due to Grandma's health. She had several miscarriages. Queen Victoria Elder was buried in a black satin dress".
