Kalākua Kaheiheimālie was born about 1778 in the Hana District of the island of Maui, Hawai'ian islands. She was of the native Hawaiian Ali'i caste, descended from the high nobility of two islands: Maui and Hawai'i. She was the daughter of Keʻeaumoku Pāpaʻiahiahi, an Ali'i from the island of Hawaiʻi Island. Her mother was Nāmāhānaʻi Kaleleokalani, the former consort of her half-brother the late king of Maui, Kamehameha Nui. By her mother, Kalākua Kaheiheimāliewas a member of the royal house of Maui. She passed away in 1842.[1]
After the death of Keopuolani, Kaheiheimalie Kaniu left her husband Kanuha in Hawaii and took Ulumaheihei as her husband, and they became known as Hoapili-kane and Hoapili-wahine [after the foreign fashion of designating husband and wife by the name of the husband].~Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii by S.M.
