Biography

Hannah was born in 1717 in Oxford, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Phillip Ammidown and Ithamer Warfield.[1]

In 1737, she married Samuel Wheelock at Mendon, Massachusetts.[2]

Hannah and Samuel removed to Tyringham in Berkshire County. In 1774, Hannah was admitted as a member to the first Congregational Church of Tyringham.[3]

Hannah and Samuel had the following children (all born in Mendon):

  1. Mary
  2. Samuel (died in infancy)
  3. Samuel
  4. Hannah
  5. Elisabeth
  6. Rachel
  7. Ithamar
  8. Levi
  9. Esebel
  10. Amariah
  11. Obadiah

Hannah died sometime before 1806, when her heirs sold the land bequeathed to her when Samuel died in 1792.[4]

Research notes

The birth records for the last two of Samuel Wheelock's children list "Mary" as the mother. The First Congregational Church of Tyringham specifically records "Hannah Amidown wife of Samuel Wheelock" in 1774 after their birth, as well as Samuel's estate names his widow as Hannah, it is assumed that Mary is either a mistake or an alternate name for Hannah.[5] Death date that was previous in this profile for a widow Hanna Wheelock in Mendon in 1803[6] is for Hannah (Albee) Wheelock, widow of Silas Wheelock. Her will in Worcester Count Probate Case 63694, names her son, Seth Wheelock, executor.

Amidon-134 and Unk.-643 appear to represent the same person because: In Mendon, MA birth records, the mother of Samuel's last three children is listed as "Mary", but in the administration of his estate his wife, still living, is referred to as Hannah. So Mary is probably either a mistake or an alternate name for Hannah.

I updated Samuel Wheelock's (Wheelock-24) profile to connect to the correct Hannah Amidon (this one)! I think the marriage to the Unknown Wheelock can be removed, and the Unknown Wheelock can be deleted. Unless Hannah was married to two Wheelocks? Or is the correct approach to Merge Unknown Wheelock with Samuel?
