Biography
Maria Greenfield was born in 1826 in Billinghurst, Sussex, England to William Greenfield and Mary. She was christened in Billinghurst on 26 Nov 1826.[1]
In 1851 Maria Greenfield (age 24, House Maid) lived in Horsham, Sussex in the household of her employer Elizabeth Rickwood.[2]
Maria Greenfield, daughter of William Greenfield, married William Parsons, son of James Parsons, on 8 Apr 1852 in Horsham.[3] The marriage was registered in Horsham in the second quarter of the year.[4]
Maria and William had two daughters: Caroline (Parsons) Trelfer (1853-1904) and Mary Ann (Parsons) Hughes (1855-).
In 1861 Maria Parsons (age 35) lived at Farthing Hill in Warnham, Sussex with her husband William (42, Carter Agricultural), two daughters: Caroline (8) and Mary Ann (6), visitor [mother-in-law] Ann Parsons (65), boarder William Street (0), and lodger John Knight (37, Agricultural Labourer).[5]
In 1871 Maria Parsons (age 44) lived in Warnham with her husband William (50, Agricultural Labourer), daughter Caroline (18), and boarder James Garman (23, Agricultural Labourer).[6]
In 1881 Maria Parsons (age 54) lived in Warnham with her husband William (60, Ag Lab).[7]
In 1891 Maria Parsons (age 64, Dressmaker) lived at Spencers Road in Horsham with her husband William (70, Farm Labourer).[8]
Maria's husband passed away in 1897.
In 1901 Maria Parsons (age 74, Living on Own Means) lived at New Street in Horsham.[9]
In 1911 Maria Parsons (age 84) lived in Horsham with her daughter Mary Ann Hughes (56, Dressmaker), son-in-law Cuthbert Hughes (49, Carpenter), granddaughter Mabel Caroline Parks [nee Trelfer, daughter of Caroline (Parsons) Trelfer] (28), and great-grandson Cecilfrank Parks (4).[10]
Maria Parsons passed away on 29 Dec 1913, aged 88 years. Her death was registered in Horsham in the last quarter of the year.[11] "PARSONS Maria of 6 Albion-terrace Horsham Sussex widow died 29 December 1913 at The Workhouse Horsham Probate Chichester 16 January to Albert Freeman carpenter. Effects £44 3s. 8d."[12]
