Biography

Elizabeth's parents were Alexander Doniphan and Margaret Mott Elizabeth Doniphan was bequeathed 80 acres of land and her mother's "weadeing" (wedding) ring. Elizabeth Doniphan was bequeathed 80 acres of land and her mother's "weadeing" (wedding) ring.^[1] Captain Alexander Doniphan immigrated to Virginia from Plymouth, England in 1672 and settled in Westmoreland County. He acquired the title of Captain by virtue of a commission in the Virginia Colonial Militia. He died in 1717 leaving a will in Richmond by which he bequeathed a large estate. Among items bequeathed was mentioned a "dymond" ring, a rare item in Colonial records. he came to Virginia at the age of 18 years.^[2]
