DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Penny by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Penny:
People have entered Sexton as her last name, but I have seen zero evidence to show this as true, so even though the names, dates, etc are the same, I, as a direct descendent of Benjamin Bennett, have not put Sexton as her last name and don't agree to a merge.
However, I would absolutely LOVE for someone to have a document proving that Benjamin Bennett's wife's last name was Sexton - because that would allow me to break this particular brick wall in my family tree.
Benjamin John Corbitt had a wife. Her name was Penelope, she was born in 1790, and she died in 1867 according to both profiles. A basic principle in WikiTree is that every person has only one profile. That principle applies to Benjamin's wife, just like is applies to everyone else. If no evidence is provided for 'Sexton', then her last name really is unknown. Do the merge and use 'Unknown' for the Last Name at Birth. If someday someone finds evidence for 'Sexton', the LNAB can be changed.
Sexton-3001 and Unknown-147018 are not ready to be merged because: It is known that John Corbit's wife's name was Penny, and many suspect she was Penelope Sexton, but I have yet to see any documents proving such, so I am not sure a merge is appropriate. I know P Sexton is listed by some as his wife, but where is the evidence?
Unknown-147018 and Sexton-3001 do not represent the same person because: lack of evidence that the Penny who was married to Benjamin Corbitt was a Sexton prior to marriage
Sexton-3001 and Unknown-147018 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband, same name, same dates. Use 'Unknown' as LNAB and note that LNAB might be 'Sexton'.
Sexton-3001 and Unknown-147018 do not represent the same person because: I realize people attribute Sexton as her last name, but have yet to see anyone provide ANY sort of documentation for this. Without documentation, it is only conjecture that her father was a Sexton. If someone could please provide actual documentatioin, that would be awesome, and I would happily merge her. She is my direct ancestor multiple ways, and a brick wall for me due to lack of documentation!
Sexton-3001 and Unknown-147018 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband, same name, same dates. Use 'Unknown' as LNAB and note that LNAB might be 'Sexton'. The LNAB is in fact unknown. We don't know for sure what it was.
However, I would absolutely LOVE for someone to have a document proving that Benjamin Bennett's wife's last name was Sexton - because that would allow me to break this particular brick wall in my family tree.
