Biography

Rose ( _____ ) Standish was a passenger on the Mayflower, in 1620, with her husband Miles Standish.[1]

Mayflower Passenger List, William Bradford

Logically she would be about the same age as her husband, so born say 1585, or even as late as 1600. Her origins and parents are unknown, but some recent research suggests that Miles may have been from Ellenbane, Isle of Man. Miles and probably Rose also were in Leiden prior to the Mayflower sailing.[2]

She died in the first winter at Plymouth, on January 29, 1620/1.[3][1]

Mayflower Increasings, by William Bradford

There is no indication that Rose and Miles had any children.[2]

Unless I am mistaken, the image caption "Mayflower Increasings, by William Bradford" is likely an error. To my understanding, Susan E Roser wrote "Mayflower Increasings." Since "Mayflower Increasings" is not listed as a source on the page, I assume this image is from one of William Bradford's documents listed.

You are correct that Susan Roser wrote a book called "Mayflower Increasings" However, William Bradford in "Of Plimoth Plantation" wrote several pages on the Mayflower passengers and on their decreasings and increasings, hence the caption which is only meant to convey what's in the image. I believe that Rose Hanley was a real person who lived on the Isle of Mann in the late 1500's or early 1600's. No proof has been supplied either way of her existence. No proof has been supplied that she married Miles Standish either. Therefore I have to disagree with the people who merged her profile away.
On: "Hanley-459 and Unknown-165180 appear to represent the same person because: same husband, exact death date... "

I Concur OK to Merge. I would suggest keeping at least a reference to the possibility of Rose's maiden name being Hanley.

Regards, Jim

Hanley-459 and Unknown-165180 do not represent the same person because: Two reliable sources say that the maiden name of Mrs. Miles (on the Mayflower) Standish is unknown.

Standish-996 and Unknown-165180 are not ready to be merged because: Rose died January 29, 1621, according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myles_Standish.

Wikipedia lists her as "Rose Handley" and says that she died on January 29, 1621 and was buried in an unmarked grave at Coles Hill Burial Ground in Plymouth as were many others who died the first winter. She is named on the Pilgrim Memorial Tomb on Cole's Hill as "Rose, first wife of Myles Standish".
