Biography

Name

Name: Hannah Unknown
Her LNAB is unknown. It can often be found on the internet and in secondary sources that she was Hannah Moore. No evidence has been found to support this claim.

Birth

Born: About 1625 (between 1615 and 1625).
The date is a rough estimate based on the birth of her first known child in 1646.

Marriage and Children

Married: Edward Bishop by 1645 if she is presumed to be the mother of all the children.
Children of Edward and Hannah Bishop: [1]
All baptized in Salem. [2]
  1. Hannah Bishop, bapt. 12: 2 mo: 1646; m. William Rayment of Beverly.
  2. Edward Bishop, bapt. 23: 2: 1648; m. Sarah Wild of Topsfield before 1685.
  3. Mary Bishop, bapt. 12: 8 mo: 1651; m. Robert Coburn, jr., before 1670 when she removed from Beverly to Chelmsford.

Death

Died: After 1692, presumably in Salem Massachusetts.

Common Errors to Avoid

Incorrect death date: It is commonly found on the internet and in secondary sources that she died before 1680. This is based on the incorrect belief that her husband had remarried to Bridget (Playfer) (Waselby) (Oliver) Bishop. It was a different Edward Bishop who had married the accused witch.

She was almost certainly not born in Salem in 1625, as the English did not arrive there until the following year.
