Biography

James Council was born 1716 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia and lived in Bladen Co. N. C. [1]

As documented by the Son/Daughters of the American Revolution, James was Paymaster of the Continental troops. He was a member of the Provincial Congress in 1776 which met in Halifax, North Carolina. He was active in the Whig cause.[2]

Research Notes

The following list, children of James Council (said to have been born 1716), Revolutionary Patriot of Bladen County, N. C, came from Mr. Edison B. Council, Council, N. C., a descendant of this James. It is believed to be the findings of the late K. B. C. His searchings extended over a long period and his conclusions may have been revised at times, based on later discoveries, as shown in sect. 76, Hodges Councill of Virginia and Descendants

A Revolutionary Patriot, James Council was the son of John Council (1690-1747) and the grandson of Hodges Council (1643-1699).

As documented by the Son/Daughters of the American Revolution, James was Paymaster of the Continental troops. He was a member of the Provincial Congress in 1776 which met in Halifax, North Carolina. He was active in the Whig cause.

James was twice married. His first wife was Joanna Willis (1724-1810), and his second wife was Sallie Kitchen. James is buried at the Council Family Cemetery in Bladen County, North Carolina.

Council-177 and Council-18 appear to represent the same person because: I was working the Data Doctor Spread Sheet with the error code of Hint 409: Marriage to duplicate person and found this duplicate. Names, dates, locations, and relationships appear to be very similar or the same.

Rather than merge this 'unknown' record into James Council, I located 2 additional sons of John Council and Josie Willis. Converting this to Jesse Council per Hodges council family genealogy document. Need to change born last name to Council
