Biography

Jane and John Ashton were married on 25 Dec 1864 at St Peter's in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire.^[1] The couple is found on the 1871 Census with two of his five children, Willam and Sarah on Whitelands Road in Ashton Town, in Ashton Under Lyne.^[2]

In 1881 James is 56, Jane is 58 and a granddaughter Emily Ashton 8 is in the house.^[3]

The 1891 England Census finds a full house for James 67 and Jane 69. Emily Ashton 18 granddaughter, James W Ashton 16 grandson, and Edith Woolley 10 granddaughter (daughter of Sarah Jane).^[4]

Research Notes

-Jane's father is John Davies according to the 1864 marriage source. I did not search for a profile for him.
-James Ashton was previously married to Lydia Pontefract who died in 1859, and she is the verified mother of all 5 of their children. James was a widower on the 1861 England Census.
-I have as yet to find a free version of the 1871 Census to replace the Ancestry.com source.
