Biography

Margaret Harrison was the daughter of Burr Harrison, b: 1637 and an immigrant to Virginia from London, England, and his wife, Sarah Frances Burdette, b: 1641 in Virginia. Many family trees say she was born in "New Hanover, North Carolina" but that area did not exist before 1729 and was definitely not settled in the 1660s when Margaret was a child. She was born around 1660, not 1654 as is sometimes listed, as her mother was not born until 1641 and English women did not have children before 16 and usually married at 18 when from a middle-to-upper-middle-class origin (as were the Burdette and Harrison families). As her father immigrated from England to Stafford, Virginia at 21 years old, around 1658, it's most-likely she was born in Stafford County, Virginia, where she lived most of her life.

Margaret Harrison married English immigrant James Brand, b: 1661, in about January 1687, in Stafford County, Virginia. The family lived on Virginia's Northern Neck (slightly south of Stafford) and then in 1701, Margaret's father either gave or sold at an advantageous price 600 acres of plantation land in Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, to James & Margaret (Harrison) Bland.

James & Margaret had 8 children, acknowledged in his will, which was signed on December 22, 1708, and proven after his death, on March 9, 1709. James & Margaret Bland's children were:

  1. William Bland b: 1687, Overwharton Par., Stafford Co., Virginia
  2. John Bland b: 1688, Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., Virginia
  3. James Bland b: 1689, Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., Virginia
  4. Alice Bland b: AFT 1692, Overwharton Par., Stafford Co., Virginia
  5. Patience Bland b: AFT 1692, Overwharton Par., Stafford Co., VA
  6. Hannah Bland b: AFT 1692, Overwharton Par., Stafford Co., VA
  7. Ellen Bland b: 1701 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., Virginia
  8. Robert Bland b: 1703 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., Virginia
James Bland, Stafford Co., Virginia, living in Northern Neck, Virginia, when Burr Harrison, (who with George Byrne later became co-guardians of William Brown and siblings) conveyed to James Bland in 1701, 600 acres of land in Stafford County. James Bland later bequeathed this land to his oldest son William, which passed down through successive sons for about 90 years. James Bland's Will was proved and recorded Stafford Co., Virginia.[1]

update - merge completed

Harrison-15053 and Harrison-10439 appear to represent the same person because: these profiles appear to be intended to represent the same person (e.g., wife of James Bland), despite their differences. They were set in an unmerged match on Jun 12, 2019. Please take another look. Thanks!

1759 is the marriage date given for Mary Carter's marriage to Burr Harrison, apparently based on this FS Pedigree file, which cites Ancestry: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:398S-J2N

That Pedigree file doesn't show a Burdett wife.

From what I can find, the only source for anything about Burr's wife (or wives) is the memorial plaque, which has come into question as to its accuracy.

update - I detached Mary Carter as wife of Burr Harrison-212.

I'm not finding anything to support who Margaret's mother might be. A merge brought in Mary Carter as a wife, but source is apparently a FamilySearch Pedigree file citing Ancestry.

What source/s are there for Margaret Harrison being born in North Carolina? Her parents seem to have been in Virginia - maybe Maryland and Virginia for father Burr. Birth location does not seem feasibly consistent with parents' location.

Harrison-15053 and Harrison-10439 are not ready to be merged because: The mother’s need to be sorted out first

Harrison-15053 and Harrison-10439 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same birth year and same father plus they married the same man - Harrison-10439 is better researched and death date of 1723 is more believable than 1759 (or 89 years old). They should be merged.
