Biography

Anna was born in 1670. Anna Cathrina ... She passed away in 1734. [1]

The winter of 1708-1709 was very long and cold in the Rhineland. It was a very bleak period. People huddled around their fires as they considered quitting their homes and farms forever. By early April, the land was still frozen and most of the Palatines'.

Anna Catharina Grau age 40 arrived in New York City in 1710 on the ship Wijnhaven which left Rotterdam 12 Aug 1709. The fare to America was 100 Florins [approx $48.00] each. There was no discount for the children. - Per George J Gray .

Note" sin or in ending denotes unmarried or a widow

Both appear on "New York Subsistence List compiled from the "journal of Palatine debtors to the British Government for subsistence given either in N.Y. City or in the Hudson River settlements, from their landing in 1710 to Sept. 1712. "Adults" all over 10 years of age. the first date 1710, was usually the first entry - 1712 was normally the last entry.

The N.Y. Substance list includes widows, orphans and elderly who were unable to leave N.Y.C. for various settlement because of health.
