Biography
Her date of birth is given in an article in the William and Mary Quarterly [1] which cites a primary source though does not say what its location is:
"The following register of AUGUSTINE SMITH and SARAH CARVER of "Shooter's Hill" was copied by General Smith into his niece's Bible along with the "Purton" register.
...
Elizabeth Smith was born the 8th of May 1722"
The same article gives the date of her marriage to Philip Aylett.
Research Notes
Elizabeth Smith's marriage to Richard Bass is disputed. Until verifiable proof of this union is found I have disconnected Richard Bass as the spouse of Elizabeth Smith.
Smith-56247 and Unknown-232089 appear to represent the same person because: Both wife of Richard Bass. Unknown is correct Last Name at Birth. It was Richard's brother, Andrew Bass, Sr. (Bass-1533), who married Elizabeth Smith.
Elizabeth Smith and Elizabeth Unknown appear to be the same person, but birth and death dates need to be reconciled. She could not have died in 1742, since she is named in Richard's will in 1780. Also it has not been verified that her surname was Smith. This needs to be determined before a merge can be made.
