Biography

Adelia (Delia) Meagher was born about May 1959 in Toomavera, Tipperary, Ireland . Delia’s parents are John Meagher (Maher) and Ann Dalton. Delia immigrated to the United States with her parents about 1870. Delia, her parents and other siblings lived in her brother Michael Meagher's home at 494 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Delia married William Henry Ryan about 1881 in Brooklyn New York. The information is accurately documented, Delia’s son Albert’s marriage certificate. Delia and William’s had five known children during their marriage children; William Jr. (born about July 23, 1882), Albert (born June 1884) , Joseph (born December 1888) and Annie age 5 (born about 1887 died between 1892 and 1900) and Harry (John Henry Ryan) born April 4, 1895. Adelia was a housewife during her married years raising her family. It appears that the family moved frequently but stayed in a 10 block radius all their lives. During the years 1900 and 1910 there seems to be some financial difficulties in 1900 William was out of work, 1905 William was employed at real estate firm, 1910 he was working at a liquor store but was out of work for 26 weeks It appears Delia’s husband died between 1910 and 1915. Some researchers state that Delia remarried but it is unknown at this time.
