Early Chatham settlers (1915) (Archive.org), William Christopher Smith, 1861, Yarmouthport, Mass., C. W. Swift. page 16. has the following:
John Nickerson, son of John and Sarah (Williams) Nickerson, married Mary _______ July 11, 1706. He lived on his father's farm between the White pond and Emery's pond near the centre of the town at that time. He was selectman three years and held other offices. His will, dated May 27, 1762, was proved Sept. 7, 1762. His only son Elisha having removed to Nova Scotia, he gave his farm and other property to his maiden daughters, Mary and Elizabeth. He had a meadow bought of David Melvil and land and meadow adjoining John Buck's.
Problem:
1. Many have her Mary Cole daughter of John Cole and Ruth Snow b. 22 Oct 1679 Eastham, Plymouth, British Colonial America. 2. Orleans marriage record reads "John Nickerson & Mary -- July 11th 1706. 3. If you have direct evidence that she was Mary Cole please provide a source. 4. Find A Grave: Memorial #138808539 lists no known burial location and lists no sources for maiden name and dates. 5. John D. Austin's, Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, states that no proof has been found that Mary, daughter of John and Ruth (Snow) Cole married. Their daughter was named as "Mary Cole" in her sister's 1726 will.[2]
vi. Mary b. 22 Oct 1679, apparently unm. when mention in will of sister Hannah on 3 Feb, 1725/6, n.f.r., it has been suggested that she m. Nathaniel Doane who d. Harwick in 1758. that Nathaniel had a wife mare and sic children b. ca. 1706-1716, probably at Eastham, but no proof has been found, the reverence to this woman as Mary Cole in the 1725/6 will militates against the possibility.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
I've rejected the proposed match with Mary Cole (1679-1762), daughter of Ruth Snow. In the Mayflower Families Hopkins silver book their daughter is said to have been probably unmarried when her sister wrote her will in Feb 1725/6 and called her by her maiden name. The pose the possibility that Ruth Snow Cole's daughter was the wife of Nathaniel Doane, but not proof has been found.
The birth date and location shown in the data fields should be removed as she is not a proven daughter of Ruth (Snow) Cole. The source for the Eastham birth should also be removed unless it's shown with a research note explaining it.
Would the best option be that she just be removed as John's spouse, and Mary (Unknown) Nickerson left as his spouse and Elisha's mother? Then you could merge this Mary Cole with the legitimate Mary Cole, to remove the orphaned profile? Because you're right - while Mary Cole does exist, there doesn't seem to be any compelling evidence that she's the Mary that married John Nickerson.
Based on John's profile, he married a Mary ____, and attached to his profile is a Mary Unknown. I would suggest that this profile for Cole-2750 be merged with the profile for Unknown-25302, and the birth date & place be removed, and maintaining the LNAB as UNKNOWN. We already have a Mary Cole who is attached to her parents appropriately and sourced. I'll leave it to the PMs to work out unless help is needed.
I’ve had problems with this Mary. There is a findagrave that says Mary Cole wife of John Nickerson died May 1762 but was born 1681, and was age 80-81 at time of death. It’s the only record with this date and no grave marker image to support it.
