Biography

Investigation needed ... I found on daughter Petronilla's page and posted herein the text and sources below ... afterwards discovering that this info conflicts (re: the mother of Maud, who m. de Ros), with Richardson and BHO, which both state that her mother was Joan _____, widow of Roger de Gyney, rather than Sibyl. [1] [2]

John deVaux died in 1288, the 16th Year of the Reign of Edward I. 1288. By his Wife Sybill, he left two Daughters, between whom his vast Pofief- fions, amounting to no less than Forty-four Knights' Fees, were divided.

Petronilla, the eldest, married William de Nerford, whose Heirs afterwards married into the Family of Dacres.

Maud, the second Daughter, became the Wife of William de Ros, Ancestor to the present Duke of Rutland.

John de Vaux bore for his Arms, "Argent, an Escutcheon between Eight Martlets Gules".

  • Lots of sources shown on Petronilla's profile (added below), but I know not from which the above is quoted.

Research Notes

Mother of Maud de Vaux who married William de Ros was Joan, widow of Roger de Gyney.[3][4]

The only reference I have found for the surname Longchamps is from her husbands mother being the widow of William Longchamps as per John Burke’s Heraldic Dictionary page 548. (Her name also according to en. Wikipedia and everywhere else I look is spelt Sybilla).

Is there verifiable sources?

D. Richardson in Feb 2017 post to Soc. Gen. Medieval, cites publice records to show that chronologically the mother of both Pernel(Petronilla) and Maud de Vaux must have been Sibyl ___, not Joan de Pelevile, widow of Roger Gyney. No mention made of Sibyl's surname being Longchamps, however.

Longchamps-2 and Longchamps-1 appear to represent the same person because: same person, needs to be merged
actually - this profile may be a duplicate of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Longchamps-2

having Sibel attached as mother of Maud is causing confusion, since her mother is Joan. I'd like to detach it, if no objection.

Thanks, Liz
