- excerpt from Adventurers of Purse and Person[1]

Name

  • Often given a middle name: Frances.[citation needed]
  • Surname suggestions have included her married name (Claiborne), Thomas (apparently a mistranscription error, putting her husband's given name as her maiden name), and Ester[2] In one place, she is named as "Agnes Frances Estes Burton"[3] (see Research Notes, below).

Birth, Marriage, and Death Dates

  • Birth date is uncertain, estimated to be about 1670.
    • Gedcom import that created profile had "BET EST 1663 AND 1685"
  • Marriage is about 1690.
    • Dorman states that she was married before 4 Feb 1695.
  • Death date appears to be a total guess.
    • Gedcom import that created profile had "BET EST 1707 AND 1772"

Research Notes

She is mentioned in her father-in-law's Wikipedia article:

"Captain Thomas Oliphant West (1670 West Point, VA - 23 December 1740, New Kent, VA); married Agnes Frances Estes Burton (1670-1720). They had five children: Nathaniel (1692-1727), Col. Francis (1702-1786), Virginia Agnes West (1705-1750; married Richard Thomas Gregory (1713-1742)), Anne (1714-1780), and Thomas (1718-1808).[citation needed]"[3]
Note that the passage in the Wikipedia article has no source (and is marked "[citation needed]") and that the article itself has a warning from 2009 at the top of the page.[4]

There are several trees out there with this person as the wife of Capt Thomas Oliphant West . However, I see no sources to indicate her parents.

Burton-3336 and Unknown-26006 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate - her maiden name is unknown at this point
The duplicate profiles attached as son Thomas appear to not be clear duplicates. If the Virginia Project has a West researcher who could take a look... See West-12705, West-7950, and West-13437.

Thanks!

update: merge completed

Claiborne-484 and Unknown-26006 appear to represent the same person because: the maiden name of the wife of Thomas West, son of John West & his wife Unity, is not known (nor is she known to have been born in King William County). If you have proof of her maiden name, or if this is a different family, please postpone the merge and add comment(s) with details. Thanks!
