Joane Awood was likely the daughter of John Awood and Alice (Unknown), and was probably born about 1551.[G2G]
Joane married Henry Hulings before 1571, and had at least two children by then. They were probably married about 1568 at either King's Stanley (register starts 1573) or Rodborough (register starts 1620).[G2G] They had (birth dates and order approximate, though likely Francis was the eldest son and John the second eldest):
In John Awood's 1571 will, he gives to his "John Hawling my Daughter's Sonne",[3] and in 1588 his widow Alice gives to her daughter "Johan Hewllynges", as well as to a "Henry Hewllynges" who witnessed her will and whom she makes one of her overseers.[4]
Johan is mentioned in the 1609 will of her husband, John Hulings. He died by May 11, 1609.[5]
Joane Hulings, a widow of Rodborough, made her will, though undated, about 1612. The date of March 11, 1612/3 is written at the top, which could be the date of her will or probate. She bequeathed to her son William Hulings, son Henry Hulings, Elisabeth Hulings the daughter of Thomas Hulings, Joane Hulings the daughter of Henry Hulings, Margery Hulings the daughter of William Hulings, William Hulings the son of Thomas Hulings, daughter Alice Richards the wife of Thomas Richards, son Henry Hulings, daughter Ann Dowse, Margery Dowse daughter of Ann Dowse, Joane Hulings daughter of John Hulings, Alice Hulings daughter of John Hulings, Abigail Griffin, daughter of Richard Griffin, her daughthers Alice, Ann, and Elizabeth, all of her "childrens children both sonnes and daughters", daughter Alice Richards, Henry and William Hulings the sons of William Hulings, son Francis Hulings whom she makes executor. She makes Richard Merrett and John Powers her overseers.[2]
In Henry's will, he mentions his sons Francis first, and John second. He leaves to Francis two acres of land, and to John his house. The (presumed) younger sons only received livestock.
"Braband" as a last name is without source. I assume it's there from some error, however have left it so that a Joane Braband wife of Henry Hulins won't be created in error.
