Biography

Caroline M. Schmidt, 1908-1976, was born in Kansas, the daughter of Samuel J. Schmidt and Katharina Schroeder, the sixth of their thirteen children. In 1910, the Schmidt family lived in Pawnee Rock, Barton, Kansas. Caroline, 2, born in Kansas, lived with her parents and five sisters. Caroline Schmidt and Madison Henry Compton were married sometime between1935 and 1940. They had a son, Madison James Compton, 1940-1945. She died in Wilmington, LA, California in 1976. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1935, Caroline lived in rural Barton County, Kansas; Madison H. Compton lived in Wilmington, Los Angeles, California. They were later married. In 1940, the Compton family lived at 627 S. Elena Ave., Redondo Beach, Los Angeles, California. Their rent was $25 per month. Caroline Compton, 32, born in Kansas, had completed three years of college. He husband, Madison H. Compton, 46, born in Oklahoma, completed five years of college, and was a high school science teacher. He had worked 40 weeks in 1939, and had earned $2900. Their son, Madison J. Compton, one month old, was born in California. ^[3]

Caroline Schmidt and Madison Henry Compton are mentioned in the death record of their son, Madison James Compton, who died of menigoccemia on 4 July 1945 at Los Angeles County General Hospital, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California. He was five years old. The informant to his death was his father, Madison Henry Compton, 1546 Banning Ave., Wilmington, LA, CA. The child was born on 23 February 1940 in Torrance, CA. He was buried at Inglewood Cemetery (LA County, CA). ^[4]
