Obituary

Betty Mae Hanson passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, from congestive heart failure. She was 92. Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Los Angeles, Betty Mae was raised in Santa Ana, Calif., attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, Willard Junior High, Santa Ana High School and graduated from Santa Ana Junior College with a degree in English.

She married Conrad Jacob Hanson on Aug. 22, 1943. They had seven children, Carol Jeanne Young of Menifee, Calif., a set of twins, Christine Joanne Stewart of Lewiston and Charlene June Hanson of Santa Ana, Calif., Conrad Jacob Hanson III of Seattle, Craig John Hanson of Merced, Calif., Cathy Jo Zeller of Lewiston. A son, Carl Joseph Hanson, previously died. She has 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

After her husband's death in 1991, Betty Mae moved to Green Valley, Nev. She lived there for eight years, after which she moved to Lewiston.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a Retired Senior Volunteer Program volunteer. She loved board games, bunco, was a mean scrabble player, (who sometimes cheated because she thought you would not know the word), and often did crosswords in pen. She was a creative sewer and enjoyed entering her items in the fair.

Betty Mae was quite a dancer in her day, winning a number of awards. She was active in the community line dancing group, and at 76 years old she found a home at the Lewiston Civic Theatre. She was in a number of plays and fondly known to many as "Gramma." She was especially proud of her appearances in the "Jukebox" performances, in which she would come out in her "bikini" T-shirt and strut her dancer legs.

Betty Mae will be buried at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, Calif. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Betty Mae's advice: Don't tell people to shut up, it's not nice, and never jaywalk! [1]
