Biography

Mary Champion was born in 1859 in St Issey, Cornwall, England to William Champion and Thomasin (Ball) Champion. Her birth was registered in St Columb, Cornwall in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Ball.[1]

Mary Champion, daughter of William & Thomasin, was christened on 5 Jun 1859 in St Issey - her father was a Labourer.[2]

In 1861 Mary Champion (age 2) lived at Church Town in St Issey with her father William (38, Agricultural Labourer), mother Thomasin (44), sister Martha (7, Scholar), and servant Mary A Vivian (18).[3]

Mary's mother Thomasin Champion passed away in 1864. Her father William Champion married Jane Gill in 1866.

In 1871 Mary Champion (age 12, Scholar) lived in St Issey with her father William (49, Agricultural Labourer), stepmother Jane (27), and three sisters: Catherine (6, Scholar), Gertrude V (4, Scholar), and Beatrice E (2).[4]

In 1881 Mary Champion (age 22, General Serv Domestic) lived at Molesworth Street in St Breock, Cornwall in the household of her employer John W Symons.[5]

Mary Champion (age 27, daughter of William Champion, Labourer) married William Henry Brown (age 26, Mason, son of John Brown, Sawyer) on 5 Aug 1886 at the parish church of Egloshayle, Cornwall - the witnesses were John Brown & Eveline Brown.[6] The marriage was registered in Bodmin in the third quarter of the year.[7]

Mary and William had two children:

  1. Ernest John Brown (1887-1962)
  2. Mildred Eveline Brown (1889-1892)

In 1891 Mary Brown (age 33, Masons Wife) lived in Egloshayle with her son Earnest (4) and daughter Mildred (2).[8]

In 1901 Mary Brown (age 41) lived in Wadebridge with her husband William H (41, Wall Mason) and son Ernest J (14).[9]

Mary Brown passed away on 11 Sep 1910, aged 51 years. Her death was registered in Bodmin in the third quarter of the year.[10]

Mary Brown of Egloshayle Road was buried on 14 Sep 1910 at Egloshayle Cemetery.[11] The inscription reads: "In loving memory of MARY, the beloved wife of WILLIAM HENRY BROWN, who died Sep. 11th 1910, aged 51 years. Also of WILLIAM HENRY, husband of the above, who died March 10th 1925, aged 65 years. At Rest."[12]
