Biography

Martha was born about 1649 in England

She married Jacob Lumpkin.

A bunch of info was added to her husband on 2018/10/16, but there is very little info on her. Her maiden surname is uncertain and some possibilities mentioned are ...

NORMAN
MATHEY
CURTIS
FOREST
WILSON.

Her death date is also unknown and has been speculated to be anywhere from 1688 to 1710 ... but all with no sources mentioned.

She would have been buried at Lower St.Stephen Church (now Mattaponi Baptist Church Cemetery).

She has a FindAGrave memorial that has a photograph of an unreadable gravestone and the memorial asks if that could be her gravestone ? [1] [2]

If she died before 1691 then the cemetery was in New Kent County. After that the area went into the formation of King and Queen County, Virginia.

It is best to mention that her death date is uncertain and mention the possibilities, rather than assign a wrong date which will stop merges for the same individual.

From FamilySearch:

Jacob Lumpkin's wife was Martha, not Martha Ann Mathey. We don't know Martha's maiden name, nor her birthplace. "Martha Ann Mathey" is an unintentional and unfortunate fabricaton, resulting from confusion about the true facts. Probably copied from someone else's gedcom or Ancestry family tree. Someone apparently started with her correct name, "Martha", then combined it with the 1600's nickname for Martha, "Mathey", but took that to be her surname rather than her nickname (she is mentioned as "Mathey" in a Virginia document. But that was her first name, not her last name. It is a form of Martha). Also, someone threw in "Ann", even though we have explained that there were two Jacob Lumpkins in early Virginia; the Jacob in K&Q County's wife was named Martha ("Mathey") ____ (surname unknown), and the Jacob in Caroline County's wife (mentioned in a 1735 deed) was named Ann ____ (surname unknown). "Martha Ann Mathey" never existed.

Thank you for your comment on Jack Lumpkin. I regret that I am not able to continue working on Wikitree. I am 91 abd legally blind, soI am trying to find outt how to withdraw my name as a manager for all on my watchlist. I have no argument with your analysis. You are undoubtably correct.

Norman-3150 and Unknown-95482 appear to represent the same person because: Nothing to support LNAB of Norman so need to set as Unknown. Same find a grave on both profiles. Exact same spouse on both profiles. Can only have one profile per person in wikitree.
