Barbara is known as the wife of John Bowman and the mother of Elizabeth Bowman Ruddell, Peggy Bowman Helvey, and John Bowman. ^[1]. Deed Book X in Shenandoah County, Virginia documents three more children for John and Barbara Bowman: Mary Ann Bowman Lock/Loch/Lough, Christena Bowman Miller, and George Bowman. ^[2]

Barbary Bowman is enumerated on the 1820 census in Shenandoah County, Virginia living in close proximity to her extended family. She has two females in the home; one age 16-26 and then one age 45 and older, so we know for sure she was born prior to 1775, and based on the marriage record of her daughter, Elizabeth, Barbara must have been born about 1759.
