Sir William Ussher of Donnybrook, Co Dublin, was born in Ireland in 1561, the son of John Ussher and Ales Newman. He was Clerk of the Privy Council [Ireland] between 1593 and 1633, Constable of Wicklow Castle in 1597 and Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wicklow in 1613. He was knighted on 25 July 1603.
He married first about 1586 to Isabella Loftus, daughter of Most Rev. Adam Loftus and Jane Purdon. Isabella died 11 Nov 1597.[1]
He married second to Margaret Cludde, daughter of Edward Cludde of Orleton, Salop, widow of George Goodman of St John's.
Children of Sir William Ussher and Isabella Loftus were:
"In 1605 Sir William Ussher published a volume of Instructions for his children." [2]
The last will of Sir William Usher was dated 28 Dec 1657.
Sir William Ussher died in 1659. He was succeeded by his grandson William Ussher who lived at the Castle of Grange, County Wicklow.
