Biography

Daughter of Stephen Vail 1710-1777 & Ester Smith 1713-1777. Rahway and Plainfield Monthly Meetings.

Married Thomas Randolph on 23 Nov 1763. Thomas was son of Richard Fitz Randolph. As noted on his memorial, Thomas changed spelling of his last name to Randolph, which carried on to his children.

  • Richard Randolph1769-1854 m. 1) Lydia MacKay 1776-1831 & m. 2) Jane Morrison *Dixon 1774-1834, widow of William Dixon.
  • Catherine Randolph 1772-1851.
  • Stephen Randolph 1772-1849 m. Permelia Nutt 1781-1857.
  • Edward Randolph 1774-1859.

Abigail's family came to Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, with her brother "Black Abraham" Vail, about 1790. [1] [2]

Cert to Redstone, PA 10-21-1795 for Abigail, her husband was removed from Redstone MM.

In the bio is the explanation that Thomas changed his last name to just Randolph and his children followed that example so I think the married name is fine but I'm going to add Fitz Randolph as another last name so she is more searchable. Good point, David.
Shouldn't the married name be Fitz Randolph?
