According to the Family History recorded in 1852 Richard moved to Claiborne County, Mississippi "at an early age". This seems substaniated by a bill attached to the estate of his (half) brother, Roswell, which shows $248 cash lent on Feburary 1st, 1818 plus interest at 20% for three years; together with $22.68 paid by Richard to one J. G. T. Mince for picking cotton on 8 October, 1819 and $36.58 for cattle sold on December 12th, attested to at Jefferson County on March 7, 1821. This account was paid in full by the estate on the 6th of April, 1822, the receipt for which was signed by Richard Valentine. It seems likely that he was the unidentified male between the age of 16 and 26 living with Mrs. M. Valentine in the 1820 census. Richard is found in Clairborne County in both the 1830 and 1840 censuses where he became a successful planter. A deed dated 13 July 1846 recorded Columbia Co, NY confirms that Richard of Clairborne County, Mississippi was indeed the son of Richard Valentine who died at Canaan, New York in 1825. With this deed he conveyed his interest to Hosea Beebe in two pieces of land in Columbia County, NY, the first located at Canaan containing about 70 acres and the second at Austerlitz containing about 10 acres [Columbia County Deed Book]. In 1848 Richard served as a state legislator for Claiborne Co. [Mississipi Legislators to 1850, Mississippi Genealogy and Local History, p. 65] Both the 1850 and 1860 census returns find Richard Valentine in Claiborne County and confirm that he was born in New York state.http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7667&iid=4233363_00040&fn=R&ln=Valentine&st=d&ssrc=&=38638931.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:
