Joseph was born 18 November 1875 in Reach, Ontario, Canada.[1] He is the son of William Valentine and Nancy Harrow. [2] He died 19 January 1921 in Pima, Arizona. [3] The death certificate states that the body is being removed to Osceola, Iowa, supporting that this Joseph John Valentine is the son of William J. Valentine and Nancy Harrow although the death certificate states that the parents are unknown.
Joseph served in the Spanish American War as a private in Company C, 1st Idaho Infantry. [4]
Osceola Sentinel 8 June 1899, p. 5: Mr. John L. Butler is in receipt of a fine variety of woods from Manilla, from John Valentine, a former employee. There are all colors of wood, running from the mahogany tint to very light tints. Mr. Butler is an expert in wood cabinet working and is very much pleased with his present.
Joseph Valentine was enumerated as married in the 1920 United States Census (Anna Valentine), but no record of marriage has been found. He is enumerated in all other located census as single. The death certificate states the Joseph Valentine was single at the time of death.
No children of this individual have been identified.

1880 United States Census - Town of Allerton, Wayne County, Iowa
1885 Iowa State Census - Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
Note: After Nancy, surname is indicated by ditto marks. "Harry M" is likely Hattie Mae, erroneously enumerated as male.
1895 Iowa State Census - Clarke County, Iowa
Note: All children are enumerated as born in Iowa, which contradicts the birth records of at least John (Joseph John), possibly indicating someone other than William or Nancy Jane were answering census questions.
Joseph Valentine has not been definitively located in the 1900 United States Census. Some researchers link the record for J.J. Valentine (First Ward, Walla Walla, Washington) to this individual, but the month of birth (August rather than January), occupation (salesman), and year of immigration (1890), suggest that it may not be the subject of this profile.

Note: Further research is required to confirm identity. Linked on basis of age, birthplace and profession. Birthplace of mother is not correct.
