Josephine was born to Antrim VanHise and his wife, Catherine Hendrickson, who were married 1849 March 3rd by Minister V Messler in Monmouth County [1]. Her siblings are Matilda C (Polk), William Combs, Mary C (Holman), George C, Charles Howard [2], Alfred, Margaret A, George C, and Laura V (Luhrs).

Josephine was married 1870 November 29th Freehold Township to Amos Shaw [3] Their daughter is Katherine B/W (Poinsett) [4]
