Biography

Frans Jacobus Wilhelmus was born in Calvinia, Cape Colony in 1840; he was the son of Jacobus Adriaan van der Merwe and Anna Magdalena Wilhelmina Lubbe.

He was a stock farmer, 19 years old, when he married 17 year old Helena Janetta Wilhelmina Visagie in the Church in Calvinia, Cape Colony, on 11 April 1859.^[1]
