Biography

English Biography

  • His Royal Highness Friso van Oranje-Nassau van Amsberg, Prince of Orange-Nassau, Count of Orange-Nassau, Jonkheer van Amsberg (Johan Friso Bernhard Christiaan David van Oranje-Nassau van Amsberg; born 25 September 1968) is the second son of Claus von Amsberg and Beatrix van Oranje-Nassau. Queen Beatrix and the late Prince Claus of the Netherlands.
Friso with his daughters
  • Prince Friso was a member of the Dutch Royal Family, but because of his marriage in 2004, which was not approved by the dutch Government, no longer a member of the Dutch Royal House nor in line of succession to the Dutch throne. He was however still in line of succession to the thrones of the Commonwealth realms.
  • On 17 February 2012, Prince Friso was buried under an avalanche in Lech, Austria, while skiing off piste. He was taken to a hospital in Innsbruck where he was in critical but stable condition. Even though he was trapped for a relatively short time and hopes had originally been higher, subsequent neurological tests showed that after fifty minutes of reanimation in moderate hypothermia, he suffered massive brain damage due to oxygen shortage, according to local doctors.
  • For long it is unclear whether he would ever regain consciousness and come out of his deeply comatose state. Then, on August 12th 2013 after being in a coma for one and a half years, Prince Friso died of complications due to the skiing accident.

Princess Beatrix bought it in 1959. After a thorough renovation they lived there from 1963 to 1981. In 1981 she moved with Prince Claus and her three sons to The Hague. The castle is privately owned by Princess Beatrix. She will again take up residence here in time.
Friso and Mabel

Marriage Friso and Mabel
Samen kregen zij twee dochters:
  1. Op 26 maart 2005 werd Luana, voluit Emma Luana Ninette Sophie, geboren
