Mabel Kathryn Floyd, 97, of Wheatland died Friday, July 17, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
She was born Jan. 5, 1912, at Prairie Home, the daughter of Henry and Melvina Maise Small. She had nine brothers and sisters. Mabel married Eben Pace in September 1928. She became a mother to a stepson, Cledith. Mabel remarried in October 1952 to Nycus Floyd. All have preceded her in death.
She worked as a cook, waitress, caterer and homemaker. She volunteered at the church, senior center and the nursing home until her death.
She was also a mentor and a second mother to three of her nieces, Nellie, Velma and Wanda, who made their home with her most of their growing years.
Survivors include three nieces, Nellie Haufel of Paola, Kan., Velma Lear of Humansville and Wanda Herman of Shawnee, Kan.; a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
