Biography

Catherine was born in 1795. She passed away in 1877.

Notes

"In the autumn of 1817, she in company with her father and mother, emigrated to Southern Ohio, and settled in Gallia County.

In the autumn of 1823, with her family, her father and mother, and her niece, Catharine (Abraham Van Sickle's daughter), removed to Central Ohio, and settled in Delaware County.

In the spring of 1853, she with her family, in company with Cornelius Van Sickle and family, removed to the State of Michigan, and settled in Clinton County, Duplain Township, where her husband Ira Finch...died...at the age of 66.

Nearly all her days have been spent amidst the hardships of pioneer life. She was energetic and high-spirited. Ambitious for her children, she bent all her energies towards forwarding their interests, to give them a liberal education, and the benefits of refined society. She is a lady of good personal appearance; about the average height, and well proportioned, with dark hair and eyes, of refined ideas, ambitious and enterprising, and well calculated to be a leader in society. She maintains a high social standing, but her manners are simple and unassuming. Had she been educated she would have been an ornament to society, but as it is her life has been a success; her children and grandchildren move in the best society, and are highly respected. She was ever a virtuous and affectionate wife, a kind and indulgent mother, esteemed by all who knew her, and especially by her children and grandchildren. She is now (1880) living at the age of 85, enjoying the possession of her physical and mental faculties." (taken from "A History of the Van Sickle Family")

Catherine was born in 1795. She passed away in 1883.

Burial in June, 1883 was at the Elsie Village Cemetery in Elsie, Clinton County, Michigan.
