Per Warren Maben <mabenwb@cobleskill.edu> email of 29 October 2004: "A list of gravestone inscriptions from the Lexington Cemetery that were published in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register (Vol. XCII, April 1938, pages 162-177) listed her as follows:

Dunham, Catharine Van Valkenburgh, wife of Ephraim, died 5 Feb. 1840, aged 24 yrs. [The age is obviously incorrect in this later account (1938) due to inability to clearly discern the carving upon the gravestone. 74 was misinterpreted as 24.]

"I'm inclined to believe the accuracy of the newspaper account since it was published within days of her death. Her gravestone may have been erected months or even years after she died. Consequently, the stone cutter may have inscribed 1870 instead of 1869 as her year of death."
