Biography

Martha Vance was born 30 Jul 1845 in Indiana to David Jacob and Sarah Smith Rhoads. She is in the 1850 census with her parents, and siblings Elizabeth, Amos, Jane, and Paulina. In 1856 the family is in the Iowa State census in Newton, Carroll County, Iowa.

On 5 Jan 1868 she married John Rhoads in Carroll County, Iowa. They had 4 children, then divorced before 1880. On 16 April 1880 she married Byron Jessie Harris in Audubon County, Iowa. They had 4 children.

Martha died on 30 Oct 1918 in Brayton, Audubon County, Iowa, and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Cass County, Iowa.
